Terms of service
Last updated: May 2026
1. The service
solicitor.law is a website design, hosting, and maintenance service for consultant solicitors, operated by Steven Mather through Kesters Nook Limited (company number to be confirmed), registered in England and Wales (“we”, “us”, “our”).
2. Charges and billing
The service consists of (a) a one-off setup fee for the bespoke build of your site, and (b) an ongoing hosting subscription billed monthly or annually in advance via Stripe. Optional Content subscriptions and bolt-on services are charged separately. All prices are stated exclusive of VAT, which will be added at the prevailing rate.
Your hosting subscription begins on the date of successful checkout. Build timelines depend on tier: Starter and Growth within 48 hours of a completed intake; Authority within 5 working days; Bespoke within 14 working days (following a 1:1 strategy call).
3. Refund policy
Before launch: if you cancel before your site goes live, we will refund your setup fee in full and cancel your hosting subscription with no further payment.
Within 14 days of launch: if you are unhappy with the launched site, the setup fee may be refunded at our discretion and your hosting subscription cancelled. This does not apply to requests for a fundamentally different site from what was agreed in the intake form.
After 14 days of launch: the setup fee is non-refundable. Your hosting subscription continues until the end of the current billing period following cancellation.
4. Cancellation
You may cancel your hosting subscription at any time through the Stripe customer portal. Your site will be suspended at the end of the current billing period. Your solicitor.law subdomain will be held for 30 days following suspension and then released for reuse.
On cancellation we will deactivate your yourname@solicitor.law email forwarding alias, and any active Content subscription will also be cancelled. There is no other penalty for cancellation.
5. What is included in the monthly hosting fee
The monthly hosting fee covers hosting and infrastructure, your yourname.solicitor.law subdomain, SSL certificate, security and uptime monitoring, your yourname@solicitor.law email forwarding (with SMTP “Send As” capability), the directory listing on solicitor.law, and ongoing updates to the compliance pages as regulatory requirements change.
The hosting fee also includes minor edits per quarter: phone number, email, contact details, photo swap, and single-line text changes. Anything beyond minor edits — additional pages, new written content, blog posts, redesigns, or restructuring of practice areas — is not included in the hosting fee.
Additional work is available as bolt-ons (per the published bolt-on pricing from time to time, including £25 per additional content edit, £75 per new page, £99 per blog post, and £149 for an annual SEO health check), or through an optional Content subscription available to Authority and Bespoke clients.
6. Intellectual property
The site template, design, code, and any content created by solicitor.law (including AI-generated copy, layout, and styling) remain the intellectual property of Kesters Nook Limited. You are granted a licence to use the deployed site for the duration of your subscription.
You retain ownership of any materials you provide to us, including photographs and text you have written yourself. On cancellation, we will return these materials to you on request.
7. Hosting and infrastructure
We own and manage the hosting infrastructure. Sites are hosted on Vercel and data is stored on Supabase. We take reasonable steps to ensure availability but do not guarantee 100% uptime.
8. Regulatory information
You are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the regulatory information displayed on your site, including your SRA number, regulated firm details, PII information, and complaints procedure. While we will verify your identity against the SRA register, the ongoing accuracy of this information is your responsibility.
9. Data processing
We act as a data controller in respect of the personal data you provide to us as part of your subscription (your name, contact details, SRA information, and billing information).
Where your site includes a contact form, we act as a data processor on your behalf in respect of enquiries submitted through that form. We will process such data only for the purpose of delivering it to you and will not use it for any other purpose. Our obligations as a processor are set out in our Privacy Policy.
10. Search engine rankings
We build every site with strong SEO foundations but do not guarantee specific search engine rankings or traffic levels. Search rankings depend on many factors outside our control.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the service shall not exceed the total fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim. We shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, or loss of revenue.
12. Failed payments
If a hosting payment fails, we will attempt to collect it again. If payment is not received within 7 days, your site will be suspended (but not deleted) and reactivated upon successful payment. After 30 days of continued non-payment we may treat the subscription as cancelled in accordance with section 4.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
14. Contact
For any questions about these terms, contact Steven Mather at steven@solicitor.law.
